While meeting final preparations we have quite a few things to announce: There are two new presentations, one by generative media artist Marius Watz and the other by Noel Douglas & Tzortzis Rallis
of Occupy Design UK. Marius Watz is a Norwegian artist working with computer code as a creative material. His work is concerned with the synthesis of form as the product of generative processes, and is known for its hard-edged geometries and vivid colors.
Noel and Tzortzis will show current work from the Occupy movement in both the UK and abroad, highlighting how graphic designers have a vital role in current protest and the imagining of a new society and will discuss the work for ‘Occupied Times’, the newspaper of Occupy London, which has since grown into a journal in its own right.
Listen, mingle, chill
There will be a third room on the programme, the Drama Studio/Creativity Awards Lounge. This place functions as a chill out area where attendees and speakers mix and mingle, have a coffee and relax. From time to time there will be intimate lectures and break out sessions where participants can enter into a dialogue with the speakers. The studio will be hosted by Creativity Awards, which will also have an exhibition in the space.
Check out the website for programme updates, livestreams and short notices, and make sure to register for MyTYPO to get access to certain functions like MySchedule.
If you haven’t got your ticket yet, you’d better hurry: the regular ticket prices are availbale only until October 14th, after this last minute prices apply.
Be part of Joshua’s presentation
Joshua Davis
came up with a very special idea for his talk (SAT 19:00, Logan Hall). He developed something he calls The Social Grid. Joshua asks you to send in artwork based on this grid, which he intends to integrate into his presentation. Don’t worry if you have missed the call for entries, you still have the chance to participate at TYPO. Look out for Joshua’s table in the foyer where paper, pen and instructions are waiting for you. Hand in your patterns until Friday evening directly to Joshua or our lovely TYPO crew. Have a look at the explanatory video
he made and the online submissions on his Behance portfolio.
Writing with the goose quill
Again we will have the much sought-after calligraphy workshop with Andreas Frohloff, the Head of FSI Type Department (SAT 10:00, Jeffery Hall). The topic this time is writing with the goose quill. Places in this workshop are strictly limited. If you want to take part, make sure to be there early. (Photo: Clemens Carlstedt)

You can pick up your badge at the registration desk in the foyer of the Institute of Education. All you need to bring is your registration confirmation. Conference times are from 10:00 to 21:00, but beware if you want to see the first talk on Friday, you’d better be early. We open the doors at 08:30.
Letters, Bikes, Erik & Phil
TYPO London’s facilitator Erik Spiekermann and Phil Baines, professor of typography at Central Saint Martins, invite 9 TYPO attendees to follow them on a 2 hour lettering themed bike tour through Bloomsbury on Sunday, October 21st 2012 where they get to know their favourite typographic sights.
We decided to give away a 10th spot to someone out there in the digital world. All you have to do is, answer the following question: What typographic London hot spot would you like to show Erik and why? Write it down in the comment field below our blog article until Tuesday 16th. We will draw one person on Wednesday, October 17th that has the chance to join Erik’s and Phil’s bike tour with the TYPO attendees.
Please note, that we don’t provide bikes and helmets. Participants need to have time on Sunday afternoon and a roadworthy bike. We will pick the 9 lucky persons during TYPO London. (Photo: Susanna Dulkinys)
Let’s get together @ Cicada
Have some drinks on us and mix with the speakers and other attendess. After the last talk on Saturday evening, we’ll head over to Cicada Bar, 132-136 St John Street, London EC1V 4JT. Free admission for all.
